With reference to paragraph 8 of

my Despatch No. 213 of the 26th. ultimo, I have the honour

to forward for Your Lordship's favourable consideration

the enclosed copy of a report by the Assistant Land Officer

for the Southern District of the New Territories together

with a copy of the Land Officer's covering minute dated the

onclosure 1.

Enclosure 2.

18th. of last May, recommending that one European Land

Bailiff at a salary of £180 to £225 per annum with travell-

-ing allowance at $30 per month and two Chinese Demarcators

at $180 per annum should be added to the Staff of the

Land Officer in the Estimates for next year.

Mr.

R. H. A. Craig was, as I have

pointed out in my Despatch under reference, temporarily

without employment, and I therefore appointed him at his

present salary of $1,980 per annum to act for the time

being as Land Bailiff in the Southern District. Mr. Craig
